23 Jun 2017 - 8 Jan 2018 Re-creation Category: Show/Exhibit
I am a wanderer in my neighbourhood. I follow the paths, the creeks, and the field roads and rarely walk far from home. But the completeness of this small world astounds me. There is really nothing more needed in my travel. Here I see a creation that never ends, a world which is constantly being made new.

As an artist, this act of renewal or re-creation is also my task. At time the work seems exhausting and unending, but this search for the new as it emerges from the old pulls me on. My work is a connection to the creator God, One in whose image I am also created.

As in the natural world, my re-creations are also a remaking of the old. A pieces of a broken teapot, a tile from a rubbish heap, or a treasure found in a thrift store remains recognisable as part of that past creation and brings its own story to become part of the new.

MCC Presents :: First Fridays in the Exchange
Featuring Sharon Loeppky

Opening on Friday, June 6, 5-9 pm
Manitoba Craft Council office – 553-70 Arthur St.
Work on display until June 27, 2014.

About her art practice, Sharon writes:
Both my home and workshop are on the bank of a small creek that cuts down through the escarpment and heads east on the prairie south of Morden MB. The quiet of the woods and fields helps remove the clutter from my mind and keeps me focused on my work. Most of this work is ceramic mosaic, and at the moment I am concentrating on landscape.

My art springs from the urges in my life. I have a compulsion to save scraps. I am preoccupied with puzzles. I need to wander, and I search for God in the open spaces. These landscapes document the world immediately around me – the view I see from a doorway, from the path behind our house, or from the road leading up the escarpment. Like the many colorful scraps they are composed of, they are glimpses of color, light and pattern to be quietly savored.

First Fridays in the Exchange is dedicated to bringing together artists, artist run centres, galleries, businesses and the public for a greater understanding, appreciation and promotion of the arts and the further development of a vital Exchange Area community. See the full listings here.
